What causes errors in an organic chemistry extraction?
Thursday, November 20th, 2008Cat H asked:
In our O-Chem lab, we performed an extraction to separate a mixture of benzoic acid and phenanthrene. Theoretically, everyone should have collected 0.25g of each, as the mixture was a 1:1 ratio and we began with about 0.5g of it. Everyone only got a 40-50% yield, however. Is this due to poor methods, or is there something inherently inaccurate in an extraction that causes this low yield?

(The experiment involved 2 small extractions rather than 1 large one, by the way.)

I’m studying aromatherapy and i have to know organic chemistry for class and i need help… i bought a book on it and they sent me the wrong book but i need help on it now because who knows when the book will be sent. Does anyone know the beginning stages of organic chemistry (nothing too complicated please) to help me out.

Thursday, November 20th, 2008Is there an Organic Chemistry software that solves reactions?
Thursday, November 20th, 2008BT asked:
I am looking for an Organic Chemistry software doesn’t matter if it’s free or not, that solves alkene reactions, alkene halydes etc, and gives the products of the reaction. (if it’s a reduction reaction etc).
Like for example what would be the product obtained from the reaction of Br2 with 1-butene if the reaction would be carriout with ethyl alcohol. You write the formula for that in the software and you’ll get the product, etc.

I am not looking for 3d modeling atom software, I already have that. I know that this exist somewhere, but I don’t know the name of the software.
I’ll appreciate your help.
