Is organic chemistry a killer?
Sunday, November 30th, 2008Jill Z asked:
i’m going to be attending college soon and i’ve heard from many people who major in pre-med/or are going into the field of medicine complain about organic chemistry. I’m really scared, any tips for overcoming this horror? are there any tutoring places for organic chemistry i can go to for help? i’m willing to study but need a little help.

is succeeding in organic chemistry or calculus plausible for someone with a less than stellar math background?
Sunday, November 30th, 2008WR asked:
i will be in an undergraduate premed program in which courses such as general and organic chemistry, calculus and physics are prerequisite requirements for med school. my math background however isnt exactly ideal, yet i was accepted into premed, which is dense with math related courses. i just wanted to know if there were any recommendations as to what i can do to succeed in this program. thanks.

Where can I find great Organic Chemistry lab resources?
Sunday, November 30th, 2008How should I study for my Organic Chemistry final?
Sunday, November 30th, 2008speshalest asked:
I’ve got a O-Chem (first semester) final in a week. What’s the best way to study all the reactions and be able to apply them (like in retrosynthesis)? (is there a helpful website??) What worked the best for you? Also, is there some pattern in O-chem that I’m not noticing? Because it seems to me that everyone’s able to understand and do well on tests but I’m missing some important clue on how to attack this subject… Please also list any specific study notes or patterns you’ve developed when studying organic chemistry. Thanks!!

How will i survive organic chemistry after being absent from chemistry courses for a year?
Sunday, November 30th, 2008What’s the best organic chemistry book out there?
Sunday, November 30th, 2008TTTrouble asked:
I’m going to take Organic Chemistry next quarter but I’m a little apprehensive since i’ve heard its pretty damn hard and I’m not sure our teacher picked a very good textbook. I appeal to those more experienced, does anyone know of a really good ochem text or a really good supplement(maybe a web resource) that’ll help me get through this stuff?

How hard is organic chemistry?
Sunday, November 30th, 2008I color outside the lines asked:
Organic chemistry 1 and 2 I have to take as a requirement for my major. I don’t feel like I’m really strong in chemistry, but I am good in biology. How is organic chemistry different from general chemistry?
I’ve already taken general biology 1 and 2, microbiology (which touched briefly into a little biochemistry) and I’m currently taking genetics. Do you think if I have a good grasp on these concepts I’ll be ok? I’m doing qualitative analysis right now in general chem 2, it’s just all the formulas to memorize and math equations to do is kicking my butt. Is there this much equations and math in Organic chem?

Why is organic chemistry supposedly more “complicated” than inorganic chemistry?
Sunday, November 30th, 2008Ryan asked:
I’m curious as to some possible explanations because its been the complete reverse for me. I was a former biology major and I would say that inorganic chemistry was an obstacle for me; whereas the organic chemistry just ‘clicked’. What could I do to possibly correct this problem. I feel like the inorganic chemistry courses I took were geared more towards engineers and not MDs or biologists…which was more in line with what I wanted to do….thanks.

What is the importance of organic chemistry to being a Pharmacist?
Sunday, November 30th, 2008UCSD undergrad student asked:
Hi, I’m a student currently in the pharmacological chemistry major. I’m taking upper division Organic chemistry classes right now but I have an extremely bad professor. I’m afraid that he’ll leave out important information. I am just wondering how important is ochem is to the profession itself, and pharm degree exams. I know there’s a lot more other chemistry such as physical chemistry and biochem in this major, but how important is ochem related to those.
