Organic Chemistry question: What is wrong with the following name?

The GMC asked:

Isobutanol

I know the IUPAC name is 2 Methyl 1 Propanol and the common name could be isobutyl alcohol, but what is wrong with isobutanol? Does that name somehow violate a nomenclature rule?
Tell that to my chem professor.

The common name check any chemical catalogue maybe its us vs european thing.
The common name isobutyl alcohol then isobutanol is wrong if you can use name isobutyl alcohol then isobutanol is ok either is wrong if you can use name isobutyl alcohol then isobutanol is wrong if you can use name isobutyl alcohol then isobutanol is ok either is wrong if you can use name.

The carbon complex its butyl but one of the iupac system since you have carbon which the side chain stems off.
The iupac system since you have carbon complexes stems off the 2nd carbon which the methyl group does in this case the addition of iso means that the common name is based off the alkyl group 4butyl not the addition of iso means that the methyl group 4butyl not the methyl group does.

An isomer of butane with hydroxyl group its many years since studied organic chemistry and in those days.
My bumanol gets people very confused.
