Why are people so terrified of taking organic chemistry?

So, yeah, it can be a lot of work, but it’s really not THAT bad. You would think it’s the antichrist the way some people talk about it.

    the molecules move

Possibly because it’s unconventional, in terms of thinking. You have to think about so many things to properly predict the products of a reaction, like kinetics and the regio or stereospecificity of the product.

I, personally, thought Physical Chemistry (a junior year class) was harder, but it just meant I had to work harder.

Yeah, I think it’s because people are scared about memorizing lots of stuff and getting ahold of some new concepts. Really, I think it’s not so bad, but I think it’s way easier if you’re actually interested in it.

The naming conventions are many and reaction mechanism down on 3 5 note cards and drawing those pesky molecues is just in case.
The functional groups are many and reaction and reaction and studied that way since that was 20something years ago can no longer remember them but still have the card file with the functional groups.
